the cartesian divers...these guys may perhaps be my favorite band of all time. From what I know, and thats pretty much just that they're called the cartesian divers, they recorded 2 demos. Both were excellent. The first one though...the first one is brilliant. Theres also a recording of either one of the guys in the divers or of one of their brothers. i dunno, they sound like they could be the same.
If you happen to know who this is, drop me a line at controlledcreature@gmail.com. They've got to still be doing something. Sometimes when i hear lemon demon I begin to wonder...
I was given this tape by a friend of mine named Jenny. I think it was given to her by her older sister, katie.
I've always thought about figuring out who these guys were. from what I was initially told, it was her sister's friend's brother's band. I loved, and still do, the hell outta it. My friend Jenny's older sister ended up running into to me while I was in college djing at kxlu 88.9 fm los angeles. I had scheduled an interview with Mirah. It turned out they were touring together (she ended up being dear nora...who knew). I should send her an email and see if she can shed a little light on this.
Back in high school i was really into trading casettes and collecting homemade demos. We used to pass them around. Sometimes I'd have dubs of dubs of dubs of 4 track bliss. I loved it.
My friend allison and I started a zine (robyn by bryon) and requested that people send in demos. We got a bunch of them from friends around town. Eventually got write ups in a few mags and demos came in from all over the country. Most of them are from high schoolers. These are the recordings we collected.
I plan on adding more of them as I go along. It's actually a pain in the ass and I'm a horrible mixer. Plus i'm getting paranoid that theres something inherently flawed with my recording technique and that i'm wasting my time. I've lost a bunch of em, but as i find em, I'll through em up. I'd love to add more to this list too, so if you have a links or tapes for your oooooold bands, send it in.
